Lebel "Sniper" Model 1886/M.93, Caliber 8mm Lebel
Description: Inv. 5457 Lebel "Sniper" Model 1886/M.93 Caliber 8mm Lebel, Serial Number 251XX. Awesome, most collectors have never seen a French WW I Sniper, This one is totally complete by the book. See "Snipers of the Great War or google and a full set of pics with show the gun. The receiver is marked Manufacture D'Armes Tulle. The condition is about 85+% original blue there is some loss on the sharp edges and gray toning of the trigger guard and floor plate. There are also a few very small areas of pinpricks. The stock and frame match, the bolt does not. The stock retains at least 70% of the original lacquer. However there are numerous nicks and dings, but no splits or chips missing. The scope is a correct, APX Ser. 43779, Dated 1917. The lenses are remarkably clear with the usual scope crosshairs. The scope is apparently brass retaining about 85-90 0f the original black paint. The mounts are offset for left eye shooting and this correct. The writer thinks that this because the bolt handle is not bent to clear the scope and it allows the sniper to still use the tangent rear sight. The clarity of the lenses is super considering the age and the experience of the gun. The bore is outstanding. The rifling is very sharp and crisp with just the slightest hint of graying. The right side of the chamber is marked, T 1921 N. This gun should be outstanding on the range, awesome in a collection, and a head turner at a reenactment or gun show. $3495.
