This is a standard U.S. Model 1898 Krag rifle that has been chrome plated for ceremonial use. These were used by Army, American Legion, VFW, etc. honor guards for parades, ceremonies, and funerals. The 30US (30-40 Krag) barrel has strong rifling with darkness in the grooves from the use of blank ammunition. It is equipped with a 1901 rear sight. All the metal has approx. 92% chrome plating with scattered areas of wear/flaking. The Model 1898 stock is good with no cracks or chips, light to moderate use dents and dings, and a visible, but unreadable, cartouche. The swivels are present. The action functions correctly. This rifle saw use well beyond its normal service life which ended around 1905. A few are still used as ceremonial guns even today.
