"Ohio Marked French Model 1842 Percussion Musket by Tulle Arsenal .69 Caliber (64894)
Description:
"NSN. Manufactured in 1844 by Tulle Arsenal, chambered in .69 caliber,40 ½"" round rifled barrel. The rifling is faint but remains present. The metal surfaces have aged to a dark brown/grey patina consistent with long service use. Factory markings remain sharp and clearly legible. The stock remains in overall very good condition, showing expected handling and usage marks. The rear of the tang is marked “OHIO," indicating state ownership, as many of these French muskets were imported by the U.S. government prior to the Civil War, with approximately 25,000 distributed to various states. This represents a classic example of early war foreign-contract arms used to supplement U.S. arsenals. The musket is equipped with a socket bayonet. The action is mechanically functional and holds full cock.
