This Model 1879 trapdoor rifle was arsenal-upgraded during its use by the addition of the Buffington rear sight and the appropriate barrel band. The 32 5/8"" round 45 Government centerfire caliber (45-70) barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. All metal parts have approx. 95% blue with most of the loss on the buttplate. The breechblock has good case colors. The stock is fine with no chips or cracks, a strong SWP/1883 cartouche, and scattered issue dent and dings. The left butt has U S/8 stamped on it. It is circled by a leaf outline. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice 1883 Model 1879 with 1884 upgrades. It would fit any trapdoor collection.
