1873 Trapdoor Rifle
Description: SOLD With a serial #56749, 45-70 Govt., 32 5/8'' barrel with a mostly bright very good bore showing some scattered areas of fine pitting in the rifling. The barrel, bands, receiver and lock have aged to a dark gray-brown patina with some light silvering at the muzzle, some scattered light handling marks toning to gray and old light oxidation overall. There are remnants of arsenal blue along the wood lines with a nice amount of the same remaining on the upper band and forend cap and protected areas of the finely-checkered hammer. The triggerguard displays a blue-gray patina with some pinprick pitting on the tang and scattered small spots of old light oxidation and generous remnants of arsenal blue throughout. The breechblock retains about 90% arsenal blue with loss due to tiny speckles of old light oxidation. The barrel features the correct small ''V / P / (eagle head)'' proof mark which wasn't used until approximately serial #50,000 and the breechblock is properly stamped ''MODEL / 1873 / (eagle head) / (crossed arrows) / US''. The lockplate displays a crisp Federal Eagle ahead of the hammer and ''U.S. / SPRINGFIELD'' below the thumbpiece. The American black walnut long-comb stock rates good as lightly cleaned with a worn coat of added finish, long ago, and a thin narrow but closed stress crack on each side of the lockplate and ahead of the upper lockplate screw, a narrow abrasion on the right side of the toe and numerous tiny chips, minor handling marks and splotches of paint transfer overall. There is a strong visible 1881 cartouches The stacking and sling swivels and front sight are intact, a correct slotted and grooved cleaning rod is stored beneath the barrel, the rear sight is a Model 1879, the lower band is from a Model 1884 and the three-position tumbler and lock are strong and crisp. A good example of a Western Era trapdoor. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost. We don’t have a web site .I prefer money orders or a check. Item ships when funds come in. I try to keep guns affordable, which means I make less money than most dealers. You won’t get altitude sickness, or nose bleed, with my prices! I consistently have the best selection of older guns If you attempt to buy, you must still contact us for details . Best to email to buy. Sometimes a local person can stop buy and purchase before the gun is removed. Sometimes not home to get calls. Some guns are required shipment to a gun dealer near you for a transfer to you when it arrives. Otherwise many older or black powder guns ship to your door. With the widest selection of older guns at great prices, We don’t have a store, and sell on the internet only. I’m easy to get along with. Thank You SOLD |
