Argentine Model 1891 Rifle by Loewe
Description: Serial #B5490, 7.65mm Argentine, 29" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a "scrubbed" rifle that has had the national crest removed from the receiver prior to export and the remainder of the metal has approximately 92-95% of the original blue remaining with some mild silvering in scattered spots and along the high edges. All of the numbers match, and the bolt has an overall bright gray patina with some mild freckling on the handle. The bolt latch has most of the original nitre blue remaining, as does the nosecap spring. The walnut stock has a few scattered minor handling blemishes and small bruises scattered about the reapplied arsenal oil finish with a faint and illegible, Argentine cartouche on the right side of the butt. "Scrubbed" rifles like this were supplied to Paraguay for use against Bolivia during the ruinous Chaco War of 1932-1935 (despite Argentina's declared neutrality) in order to secure oil rights in the contested region. This is an excellent example and would make a great addition to any collection.
