British Snider Mark III cavalry carbine. 19” Round .577 center fire caliber barrel. The bore is good with strong rifling and scattered pits in the lands. Metal is bright with areas of brown staining and patina. Stock is good with no cracks and some wood loss at the front sling ring escutcheon and lock. The barrel has the *25* caliber designation and the proof to the rear of that. The top of the breechblock is marked Snider. There are also two arrows with an “S” on the shaft on the action. The lock has a crown to the rear and Tower/ 1881 to the front. The 1881 is hand stamped. The brass butt plate is fine. Action functios correctly. This is an interesting example of the Snider cavalry carbine that was made after the Martini-Henry rifle was in production.
