French Model 1874 Gras Musketoon by St. Etienne
Description: Serial #K20382, 11mm Gras, 28" barrel with a dark bore. This is an 1874 dated, "MANUFACTURE IMPERIALE" marked, "M.80" surcharged musketoon that was modified by adding the 1880 gas escape groove inside the loading channel. The metal has a mottled gray-brown patina throughout, with pinprick pitting along the barrel, and some impact marks on the rear sight. The non-matching bolt has a more brown patina, and has light-moderate pitting on the turned-down bolt handle. The stock has numerous handling marks under a very thick added varnish, several arsenal repairs on the buttstock and wrist, as well as chips and small cracks along the vacant ramrod channel. The ordnance cartouche is no longer visible on the right side of the buttstock. This is a fair-good example of a seldom seen French Gras musketoon.
