Description:
This is a unique Harpers Ferry Rifle with a replaced Austrian Lorenz rear sight that has been on this rifle forever. The front of the rear sight cut went forward and could be replaced by a HF rifle rear sight. I would never replace it as it's Civil War replaced by the soldier who carried it. I cannot make out the proofs at the rear of the barrel. Strong markings on the lockplate. .58 caliber bore is dark and has strong rifling. The crtouches on the stock are visible but very weak. The ramrod is a perfect modern replacement. The stock has nicks, dents and scratches and metal has a heavy patina. Bayonet lug has a dent in the front. and missing the front sling swivel which can easily be replaced. This is a very interesting and scarce HF 1855 rifle. The last photo is a picture of the rear sight on an Austrian Lorenz musket.
