LANE & READ of BOSTON Antique MILITIA Musket
Description: LANE & READ of BOSTON Antique MILITIA Musket Flintlock Dated “1833” from Boston, Massachusetts Here we present a Lane & Read Militia Style Flintlock Musket, manufactured in Boston, Massachusetts circa 1833.Lane and Read was one of the many commercial armsmakers to receive contracts to supply muskets to local militia units. They were in operation in Boston, Massachusetts from 1826-1836. While having no standard design, many of these long arms were generally patterned after British military muskets, but were of a lighter design. In this era, the importance of militia firearms as protection for individual rights and personal protection in a free state was and is recognized by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. This Militia Musket follows a roughly similar pattern to the British Brown Bess with the lack of barrel bands. The lock is marked “LANE & READ/BOSTON”. The left side of the barrel is marked “P M/L.H. 1833”. The overall condition is fair. The metal is dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is smooth and dark. The stock has seen some repair along the edges, especially the left side. There is a screw that has gone up through the stock and into the barrel. The action is currently not functional as the hammer will move under spring tension but not hold cock. Nevertheless, a neat piece of history from the days before the United States had a large standing Army! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42-1/8 inches. Caliber: .69 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1175 #6452 SOLD Antique: Yes |
