SCARCE Antique BRITISH Flintlock CAVALRY CARBINE
Description: SCARCE Antique BRITISH Flintlock CAVALRY CARBINE Late-1700s Saddle Ring Carbine w London Proofs! Here we present an antique Brown Bess 1777 Pattern British Flintlock Cavalry Carbine, made circa the late-18th Century in London. Reducing the length of British flintlock muskets dates to the Seven Years Wars when new Light Infantry Corps and Highland Regiments in North America began cutting down their muskets. This allowed the soldier freer movement in the dense wooded terrain upon which many battles of the French and Indian Wars were fought. The practice probably even pre-dates this conflict as there was no standardized British cavalry shoulder weapon prior to 1756. This has every appearance of having been a shortened Bess with a sturdy saddle ring bar attached to the left side to aide the rider’s retention of the weapon. It is in .75 caliber with a 26-inch barrel that bears London proofs. This is a rare piece of history as it was on a limited basis that the armory would do such a conversion. This carbine might very well have seen action during the Revolutionary War, the Napoleonic Wars, and the War of 1812, not to mention Britain’s colonies. The overall condition is near fine. The iron parts have a nice dark finish with clear markings. The stock is in great shape, smooth and solid. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is excellent. This is a terrific piece and would have made a good weapon for the confines of horseback or forested areas, though it is rather heavy! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26 1/8 inch round. Caliber: .75 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2995 #8097 SOLD Antique: Yes |
