Description: General Specs: U.S. Model 1884 Rifle, Caliber .45-70-500 Gov't Serial Number: 361235 A beautiful Springfield Armory "Trapdoor" Model 1884 rifle accepted for military service in 1886. This is a "no excuse" rifle with exceptional FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION and a mint bore. The metal retains almost all its brilliant blue finish, with just light wear and handling marks from the last 134 years of existence. The screw heads, barrel bands, trigger guard and other metal parts have that original sheen that truly must be seen to be appreciated, retaining 98% OR BETTER FACTORY BLUE. The breech block and tang have 99% FACTORY ORIGINAL color case hardening with minimal fading from age. Stock is in great conditions with minimal handling marks, FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISH and all cartouches are correct and deeply struck. Rear sight is the desirable "Buffington" style with the "R" marking. Ramrod is original and correct. An outstanding US Military issued rifle that is sure to appreciate in the coming years and has to be one of the very best in existence…certainly the best we have ever witnessed in 30 years of travels and collecting. Breech block is case colored and marked US / Model / 1884. Barrel is marked with V / P / Eagle, horizontal P, and A in front of breech block. Stock cartouche is SWP 1886 for Samuel W Porter with the final acceptance Circle P stamped at the wrist. THIS IS NOT A RESTORED RIFLE. It is all original finishes.
