US Model 1855 Springfield 58 caliber Civil War musket
Description: US Springfield Model 1855 Civil War 58 caliber tape primer musket. Lock marked 1858, tape primer cover shows an Eagle, Springfield is hard to make out due to some pitting in the area. Full length barrel has turned brown with some pitting near the tang and rear sight, also marked VP, eagles head near the tang. The bore has visible rifling but is dark and pitted. The 3 full length 3 band dark walnut stock is worn with a crack on the left side near the front band and several circles placed on the but stock and a metal oval thumb piece on the top of the wrist. All other metal pieces are a mostly smooth dark brown color. But plated marked US. This rifle shows considerable wear and appears to have seen considerable civil war service.
