Long Branch (Canada) 1944 Lee Enfield No4mk1 Rifle British 303 Armory Fresh / Mounted Police? / Rare Sight
Description:
Here we have a Lee Enfield No4mk1* - manufactured by Long Branch of Canada with 95% or better original bluing and service replacement brown stained Beech wood. It has a matching 75L series serial number on the receiver, bolt body, magazine body and lower front wood. The left receiver charger bridge face is marked - and overmarked but stuck poorly - it could say "RCMP" over the official "MP" mark for Royal Candian Mounted Police use - as of writing this is uncertian.
The rear sight is bright and crisp - a very rare example of Long Branch made and marked mk1 Milled / Micrometer sight - distnguising features are the small apperture size - Long Branch did not follow the British order to enlarge the apperture for better low light and moving target aquisition - as such it is regarded better for daylight precision shooting. The front of the apperture also has a characteristic milled groove - a manufacturing variation for Long Branch. This sight would value on its own at over $200.
Other Long Branch distinuished components include - the (10 round) magaizine body fabrication style, a fabricated trigger guard, a simplified rear butt sling and the safety catch is the correct Long Brach "kicked toe" unique format.
Front lower wood is made by Fazakelerly in 1949 and the Buttstock was made duing WW2 by contractor code N49 - all external wood has Candian "C - broad arrow" service and acceptance marks. The right upper receiver ring as a light import marking. I figure this rifle was made and barely used in Canada - having its wood changed during service and very low use / high rack time until surplus.
The bolt head has 2 degrees overturn on the bolt body and is a size #2 made by Long Brnach - as is the bolt body.
An excellent example for filling a collection slot and investment. Long Branch did not relax its chamber tolerances per the British war orders and as such are "tighter bulilt" (within the original tolerances) and typically make excellent shooters.
Detials and photos of bore to be added soon.
