Rare British Pattern 1773 Eliott Dragoon Carbine
Description: NSN, .68 Caliber, 28" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a rare British carbine, originally born from a design made for the troops of the 15th Light Dragoons under George Augustus Eliott, 1st Baron Heathfield, and later Governor of Gibraltar during the Great Siege of 1779 & 1783. The carbine has a "Crown / GR" lock with "TOWER" at the rear point, as well as British military proofs on the barrel breech. The barrel and lock have an overall mottled pewter gray patina with moderate pitting around the touchhole, as well as on the edges of the pan. The walnut stock is in fine shape with scattered handling marks and minor blemishes throughout the old military oil finish. A small crown proof stamp is present on the right side of the butt, as well as a small rack number stamped into the comb just ahead of the buttplate tang: "41." The carbine has a correct steel ramrod, and the original sling bar and ring are still present. This is a splendid example of a rarely encountered late 18th & early 19th century British carbine, and is in fine-near excellent condition overall. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
