A mysterious Eddystone rifle, Springfield Armory up-graded for WWII, with very unusual markings. The top of the receiver has no markings, as a serial number was applied on the left breech side of the receiver, as well as a flaming bomb. The lip of the bolt opening has two Springfield stamped eagles. the stock ahead of the trigger has an eagle stamped with the number 339 stamped under it.Action is very good and the bolt is Eddystone, and the stock has a W stamped at the tip. Wartime finish is about 99% and very clean. The American stock is super clean and looks hand rubbed oil, with no wear evident. Springfield prepared these for WWII and many were issued at the beginning of the war, a friend of mine had his father issued a Eddystone for D day assault, and carried it through France, where he was issued a Garand and the Eddystone sent back home to England. This gun has no barrel date but has an importer mark. Don't think it was issued. The bore is superior to most model 1917, as it is shiny, crisp sharp rifling like new.
