WORLD WAR I Era U.S. EDDYSTONE Model 1917 Bolt Action C&R MILITARY Rifle
1917 FLAMING BOMB Marked WWI .30-06 American Rifle
Description: WORLD WAR I Era U.S. EDDYSTONE Model 1917 Bolt Action C&R MILITARY Rifle 1917 FLAMING BOMB Marked WWI .30-06 American Rifle Here we present a C&R U.S. Eddystone Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle, made in October of 1917 in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. The Eddystone Model 1917 was an adaptation of Britain’s Enfield Pattern 1914 that both Remington, Eddystone (a subsidiary of Remington), and Winchester were producing during the Great War. When the U.S. entered the war, they too needed all the small arms production they could muster for the war effort. Rather than retooling these factories to produce the American Model 1903, the U.S. Ordnance Department simply elected to adapt the Enfield Pattern 1914 to American specifications, primarily chambering the rifle for .30-06 Springfield, creating the U.S. Model 1917. These went to arm the American Expeditionary Force in Europe during WWI. The Eddystone Arsenal was a Baldwin Locomotive Works subsidiary located in Eddystone, Pennsylvania that produced military hardware for the Allies of World War I. As orders from combatants exceeded the production capacity of Baldwin's Philadelphia factory, this manufacturing facility was built in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. When the first world war ended, this manufacturing complex was used for locomotive manufacturing as Baldwin’s Eddystone Plant. The top of the barrel is marked “U.S./MODEL OF 1917/EDDYSTONE”. The flaming bomb appears on the bolt handle and the left side of the receiver. Other parts feature acceptance marks. The barrel is dated “10-17”. The stamped markings on the right side of the stock offers us a clue to at least part of its career. British broad arrow marked. The “COTC OAS 128” is from the Canadian Officers Training Corps, probably listing which school, and a rack number for the rifle. Eddystone made a total of 1,181,908 rifles. This was more than the production of Remington (545,541 rifles) and Winchester (465,980 rifles) combined. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is in good shape with strong rifling. The walnut stock is solid. The stacking swivel is absent. A great piece! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 26 inches. Caliber: .30-06 Springfield Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2400 #220486 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
