WORLD WAR I Era U.S. EDDYSTONE Model 1917 Bolt Action C&R MILITARY Rifle WWI .30-06 American Rifle Made with SLING
Description: WORLD WAR I Era U.S. EDDYSTONE Model 1917 Bolt Action C&R MILITARY Rifle WWI .30-06 American Rifle Made with SLING Here we present a C&R U.S. Eddystone Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle, made in June of 1918 in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. The Eddystone Model 1917 was an adaptation of Britain’s Enfield Pattern 1914 that both Remington, Eddystone (a subsidiary of Remington), and Winchester were producing during the Great War. This was prior to direct American intervention, which occurred in April of 1917, in the worldwide conflict. When the U.S. entered the war, they too needed all the small arms production they could muster for the war effort. Rather than retooling these factories to produce the American Model 1903, the U.S. Ordnance Department simply elected to adapt the Enfield Pattern 1914 to American specifications, primarily chambering the rifle for .30-06 Springfield, creating the U.S. Model 1917. These went to arm the American Expeditionary Force in Europe during WWI. The Eddystone Arsenal was a Baldwin Locomotive Works subsidiary located in Eddystone, Pennsylvania that produced military hardware for the Allies of World War I. As orders from combatants exceeded the production capacity of Baldwin's Philadelphia factory, this manufacturing facility was built in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. When the first world war ended, this manufacturing complex was used for locomotive manufacturing as Baldwin’s Eddystone Plant. The top of the barrel is marked “U.S./MODEL OF 1917/EDDYSTONE”. The flaming bomb appears on the bolt handle and the left side of the receiver. Other parts feature acceptance marks. Eddystone made a total of 1,181,908 rifles. This was more than the production of Remington (545,541 rifles) and Winchester (465,980 rifles) combined. The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Bright and sharply rifled bore. Very nice stock with two legible cartouches on the left side of the wrist. “6-18” dated barrel. Clear markings. The leather sling is in good shape. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 26 inches. Caliber: .30-06 Springfield Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2450 #217647 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
