Antique Spandau Gewehr 1888 Commission Rifle – 8mm – Dated 1890
Description:
Offered is a German
Gewehr 1888 Commission bolt-action military rifle, manufactured at the Imperial Arsenal at
Spandau in 1890.
The rifle is clearly marked
“Gew. 88” and retains the distinctive full-length metal barrel jacket associated with the Model 1888. It is chambered for the
8mm German cartridge family and has an
“S” marking on the receiver, indicating a later chamber modification for the German spitzer cartridge. Because the “S” marking does not by itself confirm the exact bore diameter, the chamber and bore should be checked by a qualified gunsmith before firing modern ammunition.
The receiver and several visible components are numbered
211. The barrel band also displays period German military unit or rack markings.
The military stock shows scratches, handling marks, finish wear and age-related discoloration. The metal has thinning finish, patina, spotting and general service wear consistent with a military rifle manufactured more than 130 years ago. Shipping, handling and insurance varies on each firearm from $35.00 to $100.00, depending on size, weight and zip code. To be determined after sale.
