Arisaka ~ Type 99 ~ 7.7x58mm ~ Monopod and Bayonet
Description:
Used. This Type 99 was manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal and is from the 4th series. The stock has the early drain hole on underside in order to let water run out intstead of swelling the stock. Bolt matches receiver, both ending in 022. The rifle was surrendered as there is no chrysanthemum present. The Japanese characters on the receiver (99 Type) have also been removed. The sling seems original, late war narrow 1 1/8" wide variety, but has no markings, it has a quick detach clip which may or may not be original. The nosecap with the bayonet lug does not match rifle. The dust cover appears to be a reproduction as it is not serial numbered. The monopod appears to be a reproduction. One of the bottom screws has been messed with and has been turned into a crude Phillips head, however the screw itself seems original to the rifle. The safety does work, but not well with the dust cover attached. The rifle lacks a cleaning rod and the anti-aircraft sights. The type 30 bayonet is of the later style without hooked quillion. This bayonet was manufactured at Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works) under Nagoya Supervision. The bayonet fits snugly on the rifle and the scabbard goes on and off smoothly. This is a nice example of an early to mid war Type 99, that has seen its share of use and still displays a great bore. Rifle would make a fantastic shooter or collectors piece.
