Arisaka Type 99, Early war, 7.7mm
Description:
This is a classic, somewhat refiinshed, early war beauty! It groups at 7:00 o'clock at aboiut 1.5 inches from the center bull at 50 yards. This is a slight adjustment. The barrel is excellent! The barrel and action are original but the bolt is not. It is however, somewhat smoothed and works well. I rust blued the metal
parts including the barrel and receiver and the cleaning process did no metal damage. It obviously is not all original. It wasn't intended to be. I had to do some serious samaller parts finding but it was worth it. If you are an afficianado of "original" try finding one! This will take down a white tail or hang on a wall as you wish. But it would really be an ouytstanding deer rifle. The ballistics are almost exactly the British .303 and very similar to the .308. it will take down any game in North America ecxcept perhaps the Grizzly head on. The action is significantly stronger than the Mauser or the Springfield or the others they tested after WWII and it came out way better which means your loads might actually take out the Grizzly. It is also very well preserved for a 82 year old functioning rifle. Steinel and other ammo manufacturers made cartridges for this rifle and contrary to populer opinion, they're easy to find. You can also load your own. Several Manufacturers make the dies and the loading data is readily available. You can get back to me on that if you have trouble.
Anyway, I hope you really enjoy this rifle!\
