"WWII Japanese Toyo Kogyo Series 35 “Last Ditch" Type 99 Bolt Action Rifle 7.7x58 (L2026-06615)
Description:
"No serial listed. Manufactured circa 1945 at Toyo Kogyo, chambered in 7.7x58mm,25"" round barrel. The bore is good with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. Faint traces of the imperial chrysanthemum (“mum") remain visible on the receiver, while additional kanji markings are present on the left side. The bolt is marked “420." The rifle features a three-piece stock showing expected handling and usage marks consistent with late-war service. This Series 35 example represents a “last ditch" Type 99, produced under severe material and time constraints near the end of WWII. These rifles typically exhibit simplified manufacturing techniques, including rougher finishes and substituted materials, reflecting Japan’s deteriorating wartime industrial capacity. Despite these simplifications, they remain functional service rifles and are highly collectible as representations of late-war production. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
