Very well
kept Arisaka in beautiful condition
Description: This offering is a beautiful example of the early war type 99. It has a rare intact MUM. It was manufactured in the Nagoya Army Arsenal, probably in1942 or early 1943It has all the accoutrements of the early rifles including those that turned out to be irrelevant like the "wings" on the rear sight for leading aircraft zooming by at 120 miles an hour. It has the monopod, the dust cover (a wonderful device that rattked so that the U.S Marines could locate you and kill you), the drainage holes in the stock, the full length cleaning rod and catch, the ears on the front sight, etc. Some of the parts do not have the same seril numbers. This was a battle rifle. It didn't do guard duty. The original bolt is probably still rusting on Saipan or Guadacanal. I added the sling and the dust cover to make it authentic. The 7.7 round is a .30 caliber bullet that measures .311 like the British .303 or the Russian 7.65. It has the same ballistics as the British .303 and very close to the American .308. The rifle got an undeserved bad reputation after the war because the GIs tried to shoot live ammo through practice rifles that looked just like the battle rife but were made of iron rather than steel. They blew up with the occasional seriopus innjury. Later, when the Korean War started, the Army, which was holding a large inventory of these captured weapons needed to arm the Souh Koreans but were rather hesitant because of the reputation. So they pressure tested them against the Mauser, the '03 Springfield, the Enfield MK IV, etc. They blew all these actions up --except the Arisaka.I have heard that a gunsmith possibly named Larson tried and blew the barrel off but coudn't bust the action. I load myown so knowing the above, I load a little heavy and get better velocity and range. Note thay I wrote "a little". If you do this watch your cartridge cases carefully. Any way, this is a beautiful rifle that will work as well in the field as on the wall. I hope you enjoy it!!
