WW2 1943-1944 1st Block Production I.B.M. U.S. M1 Carbine in .30 Carbine
** Scarce Benicia Arsenal Rebuild in Early I-Cut Winchester Stock** SOLD
Description: This is a very nice 1943-1944 1st Block Production I.B.M. U.S. M1 Carbine that served in WW2 and was then rebuilt by the U.S. Army's Benicia Arsenal in California for service in Korea. This is one the first Benicia Arsenal rebuilds we have ever come across as they are quite scarce. During the inspection and rebuild process the original barrel was kept on the gun, but the rest of the small parts and stock were changed out. This I.B.M. M1 Carbine has an Inland trigger housing with an "H.I." marked straight hammer, an "E.I." marked mag release, a type 2 sear, and a "CM" marked Type IV safety. We did not remove the trigger to see what it was. The operating slide on this M1 Carbine is a type 5 that is stamped with an underlined "PI", which is Inland. The bolt in this gun is a flat blued model stamped "UN", a National Postal Meter part. The rear sight is an I.R.CO. stamped model, the front sight is an unmarked milled piece, and the barrel band is a type 3 stamped with a "D" inside a diamond and "SA" on the bayonet lug. The stock on this I.B.M. is a really nice part. It is a very early "high wood" Winchester stock with an I-cut sling well. It is stamped with the Benicia Arsenal rebuild mark consisting of the the initials "B.A." over the inspector's initials "JPL". The handguard is a 2-rivet Inland piece stamped "IO". As you can see from the pictures, this is a very handsome carbine that has great battle-used look to it. The parkerized finishes are all original and attractive without any eyesores or bad spots, and the stock set is clean and free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. The original blue finish on the flat bolt is in great shape showing only minor wear, and the bore in this I.B.M. is excellent with nice, sharp rifling throughout the barrel and no pitting or visible imperfections. The action on this carbine is slick and smooth, and all of the controls are in perfect working order. This I.B.M. should function just as well today as the day it left the factory. It comes with one original U.S.G.I. 15-round magazine that is stamped "IS" on the spine. If you have been looking for an attractive WW2 M1 Carbine for your collection that likely served in Korea as well, this scarce Benicia Arsenal reworked I.B.M. would be an excellent choice that could be enjoyed as both an investment and as a shooter.
