WW2 1943 Winchester M1 Carbine in .30 Carbine
** Early 1st Block Production 99% Original Gun!** SOLD
Description: This is a very nice World War 2 Winchester M1 Carbine manufactured in late 1943 that has a great look to it. It appears to have never been arsenal rebuilt and is in excellent condition overall. Outside of the front sight, rear sight, and handguard, this M1 Carbine is it 100% original and correct. This early production gun has the desireable and correct high-wood stock and seperate spring-tube receiver. We took it apart entirely and checked it against R.C. Larson's book titled M1 Carbine and every single part in the gun is correct and original to the gun except the 3 parts listed previously. What makes this Winchester particularly interesting and unique is that it also likely saw service with some specialized unit, whether it was a military branch or a civilian police force as most of the small parts have been professionally stamped with the last two digits of the serial number. We have never encountered this before and we are unsure of what it means. The likely assumption is that it was one of several Carbines to an assigned group/unit/station, and the small parts were numbered to make sure that they all went back on the same gun if several were disassembed and cleaned at the same time. The front barrel band, operating handle, magazine release, safety, rear sight, bolt, band spring, trigger housing, recoil plate, and even the screw thru the recoil plate has been numbered with "56". The stock has the full serial number stamped in the barrel channel. The handguard is the only part that is numbered that does not match, having another full serial number from a different M1 Carbine stamped on the underside. The finishes on this winchester are all-original and in great shape overall. Al of the parkerized parts show a nice uniform patina and minor finish wear. The original blue finish on the bolt is still intact, showing wear on the contact points that is consistent with the rest of the gun. The bore in this M1 Carbine is superb. The rifling is still nice and strong, and there is no pitting, erosion, or any other imperfections visible. The original high-wood Winchester stock is a very nice solid example, but has been lightly sanded at some point. The sanding removed the original cartouches on the right side of the butt, leaving only shadows where they used to be. The slingwell was not sanded however, and the "W" stamp located in the left side is still nice and strong. This stock is completely solid and free from any cracks, chip, or repairs. The nose of the stock shows compression marks from a Type 1 barrel band only, and it still has the original Winchester buttplate in place and tight to the wood. All of the controls on this Winchester are in perfect working order, and when worked by hand the action is smooth and goes into battery perfectly. This very unique Winchester M1 Carbine is really a great example of the "War Baby" that our troops carried all over the world during World War 2, made by one of America's most famous and collected gunmakers. If you have been looking for a carbine for your collection that you could enjoy as both a shooter and investment, this unique 1st-block production 1943 Winchester would be an excellent choice.
