This Springfield Armory M1 Garand is built around receiver serial number 3565171, placing production in March 1945 as the Second World War entered its final months. While the receiver dates squarely to the closing chapter of WWII production, the rifle presents today in a highly desirable CMP Expert Grade-style configuration with fresh wood, excellent metal finish, and outstanding mechanical appeal. The result is a rifle that combines genuine wartime heritage with modern shootability.
The rifle is fitted with a commercial Faxon Firearms barrel dated 03/25 and chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The accompanying armorer tag records a muzzle reading of 2 and throat erosion of 2, indicating minimal wear and excellent remaining service life. Combined with the long-stroke gas piston operating system, post-war T105 style sights, and fresh barrel installation, this Garand is configured to be an exceptional shooter while retaining the feel and balance that made the M1 legendary.
The bolt is marked D28287-12SA, a Springfield Armory component commonly encountered on post-war rebuilt rifles. The rifle wears a beautiful CMP walnut stock set featuring the CMP eagle cartouche on the left side of the stock and a CMP-marked gas cylinder lock screw at the muzzle.
Adopted by the United States in 1936 and praised by General George S. Patton as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” the M1 Garand revolutionized infantry combat with its semi-automatic firepower. Springfield Armory-produced rifles like this example armed American forces across Europe and the Pacific during World War II and continued serving through Korea and beyond. A March 1945 Springfield receiver represents one of the final wartime production periods before victory was secured.
For collectors seeking a rifle they can confidently take to the range without sacrificing historical significance, this Springfield checks all the right boxes. You get a documented WWII Springfield receiver, excellent TE and ME readings, a newly manufactured Faxon barrel, attractive CMP walnut furniture, and the reliability that keeps the M1 Garand at the top of every serious U.S. military rifle collection. This is the kind of rifle that honors its history while remaining ready for the next range session.
