Springfield Armory ~ M1D Garand ~ .30-06 Springfield
Description: The American military throughout the 20th Century used a variety of dedicated sniper rifles converted from standard infantry weapons, and the M1D "Sniper Garand" is one of the hardest to find today. First adopted in 1937 after years of development at Springfield Armory by John C. Garand, "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1" became the standard infantryman's weapon for the U.S. Army, continuing to serve with National Guard units as late as the 1970s. While the military fielded as many as 28,000 scope-equipped M1903A4 rifles in World War II, it was still thought a promising idea to get the Garand into the sniper rifle game. The M1D Garand was officially adopted in September of 1944, but most models were built from standard infantry Garands from 1951 through 1953. The M1D incorporated a barrel mount designed by Garand to hold an improved version of the M81 and M82 scopes, called the M84 telescopic sight. This example is the real deal. All original parts and pieces on this one. A very good bore with excellent shape and rifling. Barrel is SA 9-52 and has the stamping of D7312555. Two proof stamps on this one - one as the normal Garand and then one when converted to the M1D. Original M84 scope. Has a sling and leather cheek piece. This is a great collector piece. .30-06 Springfield SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Metal Condition: good Wood Condition: good Bore Condition: bright Barrels: 24" barrel Stock Dimensions: 13 Fore End: smooth wood Butt Pad: metal Weight: 12 lb. 10 oz.
