Description:
This rifle is the Type 1 National Match rifle that M1 author Bruce Canfield says, "...the true number of Type 1 National Match rifles actually sold was something under 4,000. Since the majority of these rifles were subsequently upgraded to Type 2 configuration, the true scarcity of unaltered Type 1 rifles is readily evident. An unaltered, documented Type 1 National Match M1 rifle is among the most desired (and hardest to find) variation of the Garand."*
My uncle purchased this from the Army in 1957. I have a letter from the army to my uncle discussing the purchase process. I have the sales receipt and the shipper for the rifle to my uncle. I inherited this rifle from my father in 1991. I have never fired it. My father bought it from my aunt circa 1974 after my uncle's death. He never fired it and he told me that my uncle never fired it. Given the condition of the rifle it is obvious that this has been a safe queen for 69 years.
This is for the most advanced M1 collector because of the condition and rarety of the early and special National Match model. While I might consider offers on it let's be honest, I have had it for 35 years so I'm not in a hurry to sell it so keep any offer reasonable.
Comes with the sling that has always been on it, cleaning tool, oiler, and some appropriately dated en bloc clips.
I have more pictures than are shown here so if you want something particular please don't hesitate to ask.
I have some 1958 dated National Match ammunition that I picked up in the 1990's that would be appropriate for a 1957 rifle that I will include for free but that will add to the cost of shipping.
I am required to put in a shipping cost so I put in $999 but in reality it will be dependent on shipping distance, shipping method, insurance, etc. I will ship in a padded hard case inside of a carton unless other methods are agreed upon. Better yet come to Michigan and pick it up.
