This Steyr Model 1895 straight pull action carbine was updated to the 8X56R Austrian cartridge from its original 8X50R cartridge. The large S on top of the barrel signifies this. These carbines were used in WWI and WWII by Austrian and German troops. The 20"" barrel has a very good bore with strong rifling and darkness in the grooves. The gun has approx. 97% of its arsenal blue finish. The bolt and trigger are bright. The top of the receiver is marked with the Austrian crest over STEYR over M.95. The top of the chamber has a series of Austrian inspection and proof marks. The left side of the receiver has the original serial number plus import marks including an added serial number. The blonde wood stock is fine with no cracks or chips. The swivels are present. The action functions correctly. The Steyr Model 1895 is one of the key WWI firearms.
