"Serial No. 5724ii, manufactured in 1916 by the Royal Prussian Arsenal at Erfurt, chambered in 8mm Mauser with a 23.75-inch round barrel. Designed as a shorter and lighter alternative to the Gewehr 98 for cavalry, artillery, and stormtrooper units, the “aZ" designation stands for mit Aufpflanzvorrichtung und Seitengewehrzusatz—indicating a bayonet lug and stacking hook. All serial numbers are matching throughout, including the screws, reflecting excellent originality. The finish has thinned to a brown-grey patina with traces of original factory blue remaining in protected areas. The walnut stock shows light combat wear with scattered nicks and handling marks. The action cycles smoothly and functions correctly. Factory markings and Imperial acceptance proofs remain sharp and fully legible on the receiver and barrel shank.
