1942 HUSQVARNA MAUSER Model 1896 Long RIFLE 6.5x55mm Swedish Military C&R
Mid-WORLD WAR II Rifle for CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING
Description: 1942 HUSQVARNA MAUSER Model 1896 Long RIFLE 6.5x55mm Swedish Military C&R Mid-WORLD WAR II Rifle for CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING Here we present a Swedish Military Husqvarna Model 1896 Mauser Rifle, made by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB circa 1942. “Swedish Mausers” are a family of bolt-action rifles based on an improved variant of Mauser's earlier Model 1893, but using the 6.5×55mm cartridge, and incorporating unique design elements as requested by Sweden. These are the Model 1894 carbine, the Model 1896 long rifle, the Model 1938 short rifle, and the Model 1941 sniper rifle. In 1898 production began at Carl Gustafs stads Gevärsfaktori in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The Model 1896 rifle in 6.5×55mm was adopted in 1896 for infantry use, replacing the Model 1867–1889 Remington rolling block rifle in 8×58mmR Danish Krag. Swedish production started in 1898 at Carl Gustafs, but additional rifles were produced by Mauser during 1899 and 1900 because of delays in shipping additional production machinery from Germany to Sweden. Mauser produced 40,000 Model 1896 long rifles between 1899 and 1900, Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori produced 475,000 Model 1896s between 1896 and 1932, and Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB produced roughly 18,000 Model 1896 rifles, such as this one, between 1942 and 1944 for civilian marksmanship training, giving a total of 535,000 Model 1896 long rifles produced. Overall condition is near fine. This example is dated “1942” on the barrel. The action is strong. The bore is bright throughout with nice rifling. The stock is solid and smooth. Here is a nice piece of WWII era history to collect and display. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: 6.5x55mm Swedish Overall condition as seen in photos.
