1942 Savage Enfield No.4 Mk 1*
All Original Including Wood
Description:
This is a complete Savage-made No 4 Mk1* British lend-lease rifle with proper US property receiver stamp. By all of our visual ability, everything is Savage-marked, including alloy metal buttplate and magazine. The complete bolt assembly is Savage parts as well. We find NO FTR or POF marks. While we don not see an import mark, we find a very faint "303 Brit" mark only.
Receiver gas hole still full of grease. Front face of front sight still has excessive globs of original factory grease. In fact, this rifle retains a fair amount of its "packing grease" from post-war storage.
Rear sight appears to be a Fazakerley upgrade. Bore is bright and shiny with no signs of corrosion. We find no cracks in the original Savage wood, however we do have handling marks as seen in the pictures.
All evidence appears to us that this Savage rifle remais in the same configuration that it left the Savage factory with the question of where and who did the rear sight upgrade. Markings on top of receiver indicates South African service at some point in its career.
