1943 Vintage Swedish Military Carl Gustafs Ljungman AG-42B Rifle in 6.5x55mm Swedish
** Rare Gun in Excellent All-Original Condition **SOLD**
Description: We are very pleased to offer this 100% original and all-matching Swedish Military Ljungman AG-42B rifle in 6.5x55mm Swedish manufactured by Carl Gustafs Stads in 1943. The semi-automatic Ljungman AG-42 rifle was designed and built during World War 2 in 1941 by the Swede Erik Eklund at the AB C.J. Ljungmans Verkstader company in Malmo. It was designed to use a direct gas-operated action with no piston or operating rod needed. The AG-42 was put into Swedish Military test trials almost immediately. It did so well that it was officially adopted by the Swedish Army in 1942, less than a year after being designed. The Carl Gustafs firm began to build the AG-42 in 1942 and wound up making approximately 30,000 of the rifles for the Swedish Army. While the standard infantry rifle remained the Mauser M96, the Ljungman AG-42 was quite popular with the troops that were issued them. It was only later in the late 40's and early 50's that some problems began to show up with these rifles, the main problem being rusting gas tubes that would render the weapon single-shot. Between 1953 and 1956 all of the AG-42's in inventory were updated to the AG-42B configuration by replacing the gas tubes with stainless steel parts, updating the top covers to have two knobs for grasping, changing the rear sight adjustment knob to a rubberized version, adding a rubber shell deflector, and swapping out the cleaning rod and magazines for improved versions. Once all of these modifications were complete a letter "B" was stamped on the rifle in several places. The Ljungman AG-42B would go on to serve another ten years or so to the mid-1960's when it was replaced by Ak4, a weapon derived from the HK G3 rifle. This particular Ljungman AG-42B is a VERY early Century import, as the import mark is a very light freehanded electro-pencil marking on the right side of the receiver below the bolt. As mentioned earlier, this AG-42B is 100% original and all-matching. The original blue finish is still attractive and shows only light wear in the places where metal to metal contact occurs when the action is worked and some of the high edges. All of the factory markings and Swedish proofs are still intact and in good legible condition. All of the numbered parts are original and matching including the receiver, bolt carrier, bolt, and buttplate. The bore in this Ljungman is very good, showing strong and sharp rifling throughout the barrel with no major imperfections or visible erosion. The stock set is also in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. The wood shows a lot of minor handling marks and dings/dents but that is to be expected on a issued weapon. All of the factory stock hardware is intact and the Swedish Military inspection cartouches are still visible on the underside of the pistol grip. The bore condition I.D. disc is still in-place on the right side of the buttstock and reads a bore diameter of 6.49 and a bore condition of "2". These are good readings, indicating that this rifle still has a ton of life left in the barrel. The action on this Ljungman AG-42B is slick and smooth, and the bolt slams home with authority when released with a very strong recoil spring. The fitment of the action to the receiver is excellent with little to no play in it depending on the part. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order as well, including the rear-mounted safety and adjustable rear sight. The original 10-round magazine that comes with this AG-42B is the later improved "B" model in great shape overall and 100% functional. If the new owner so chooses, this Ljungman should function just as reliably and accurately now as the day it left the factory back in 1943. If you have been looking to add a very interesting and rare new addition to your military weapons collection, this Swedish Military Carl Gustafs Ljungman AG-42B would be a superb choice. In the 47 years plus that Antique & Modern Firearms has been in business, we can count how many of these we have had one one hand!
