BSA Lee-Enfield Mk. I Target Rifle (Regulated by L.R. Tippins)
Description: Serial #10343 / 803, .303 British, 30 1/4" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some minor freckling within the grooves. This is a “BSA Co." marked rifle, with “LRT" monogram on the knox form, and retailer engraved on the left side of the receiver: “L.R. TIPPINS / MISTLEY / MANNINGTREE" in crisp Roman letters (This was Tippins’ marking ca. 1917-1920). The metal retains 90-92% of the original blue finish that is blending into a smooth, dark plum-brown patina along the balance, with some silvering along the edges, projections, and bearing surfaces. The bolt is not equipped with a safety, is numbered to the gun, and has a mostly bright gray body with some streaks of darker freckling. The forward volley sight is still present, the front sight is equipped with protective wings, a windage adjustable, non-graduated back sight is fitted to the barrel, and a BSA Tippins Patent aperture sight is mounted in place of the rear volley sight (somewhat similar in design to the Sutherland rear sight used on military Ross Rifles). The nicely figured walnut stock and forend have numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the original oil finish, especially noticeable on the forend behind the barrel band and around the receiver. A correct magazine is fitted, a target sling swivel is present on the barrel band, and commercial Birmingham proofs are present. This is a very nice Long Lee, in fine plus condition, with retailer-regulated target barrel.
