Egyptian Hakim Semi-Auto Military Rifle 8mm Mauser
SOLD
Description: This is one of the better Hakims we have had here in many years. The Egyptian Army Hakim rifle started life as a Swedish military rifle design called the "AG m/2" chambered for the 6.5 Swede cartridge. The design and tooling was sold to Egypt in the early 1950's, and after the Egyptian military engineers modified the design to have an adjustable gas system and fire the 8mm Mauser cartridge it was put into production. Egypt had a large surplus of 8mm Mauser (8x57) ammunition left over from the Second World War so it was important to them to utilize that in the new rifle. The semi-automatic Hakim gave the Egyptian soldier a much greater capacity for firepower than the bolt action Mauser rifle they were armed with previously. While the Hakim proved to be a very good design that was reliable, tough, and accurate, ultimately it was replaced in the mid-1960's by the Maadi AK47 rifle which was much cheaper to build and capable of full-auto fire. This Maadi is a very attractive specimen with a conservative 80 to 85% of the original factory blue finish remaining. The original stock is in excellent condition with minor handling wear and has not been sanded, with no cracks, repairs, or major damage visible. The Egyptian inspector's eagle cartouche is nice and clear on the bottom of the pistol grip. All of the metal hardware is intact and tight to the wood. The barrel has a small import stamp on the barrel behind the recoil brake, stamped "CAI ST A VT". The bore in this Hakim is good with strong rifling and only light pitting. There are no bulges, dents, or deep pits which are often seen in these with the relatively poor ammo that was often shot thru these rifles. Everything on this rifle works 100% as it was designed to. All of the controls work perfectly and the action is smooth and locks into battery perfectly. These Egyptian Hakims seem to be harder and harder to find with each passing year and the prices they command have been steadily rising as well. If you have been looking for one of these unqiue military rifles this exceptionally clean example would be an excellent addiition to your collection.
