Description:
Feinmechansiche Werke K98k, an all matching German military rifle made in 1940. As background, In mid 1940, the "27" code of Erma was replaced by the "ax" code of Feinmechansiche Werke. It is estimated that approximately 150,000 K98k rifles were produced in 1940 with both the "27 (Erma) / ax (Feinmechanische Werke) code receiver markings, the "ax" coded rifles less frequently encountered. The top of the receiver ring is marked "ax / 1940". The left side of the barrel and receiver ring are marked with the Na*i firing proof and the serial number followed by "Mod. 98". The rear of the barrel is marked with three "eagle/280" proofs and "7.92". The right side of the receiver ring has three "eagle/280" proofs. Tangent rear sight graduated 1-20 meters. The rifle has all milled parts and all the numbered parts are matching. Laminated stock is numbered to the gun, proofs stamped in the grip area and lower spine, the army wing eagle/H proof over two Waffenamt 280 proofs on the right side of the buttstock. Flat matching buttplate. Complete with a leather sling.
Condition:
G/VG original blue with sharp edge wear, speckling, and handling-related thinning in the expected locations. Comparable condition stock with numerous handling marks and gouges, the most prominent in the middle of the stock, both sides, and just behind the left side of the tang. Comparable condition sling. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
