German Jaeger Rifle Model 1871 by Steyr with Artillery Unit Marking
Description: Serial #7429H, 11mm Mauser, 29? barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a great looking, Austrian-made, ?OESTERR. WAFFFB. GES.?-marked, 1875 dated, short rifle that has 97-98% of an armory quality re-applied blue finish on the metal, including the matching numbered bolt. All of the edges and markings are still sharp and crisp, as are the cartouches in the walnut stock which has only minor handling marks and small blemishes in the otherwise excellent, added military oil finish, heaviest along the belly of the buttstock. The buttplate tang is unit marked: ?5.A.F./7.113? (5th Foot Artillery Regt., Baty. 7, rifle 113). These Jaeger Rifles were intended for light, mounted, and artillery units but were still in use by German colonial troops in Africa right up until 1918. This example is in excellent condition as refurbished and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.
