This wonderful piece of history has a good amount of the original pre-WWI bluing still intact, along with some patina that has built up over the 132 years. There is some rust and pitting on the butt plate, but the rest of the outside seems to be pit free. The bore still has good rifling but does have some pitting, which is to be expected with a military firearm of this age. All of the action seems to be fully functional, and the bore is usable. The numbers on the barrel and magazine plate match, the stock and bolt do not. The receivers were not numbered by the French at the time of production. The receiver and barrel are marked "N" as being converted to the updated Cartouche Mle 1932N.
