Description: MODEL 1885 LOWALL U.S. MARKED "WINDER" MUSKET IN .22 SHORT RIM FIRE CALIBER, #128XXX, MADE IN THE LAST YEAR OF WORLD WAR I IN 1918. This "Trainer" musket is clearly stamped "U.S." over the Flaming Bomb on the upper tang behind the hammer. Excellent deep reddish color with nice grain pattern butt stock and forearm with tight wood to metal fit. Exc. barrel blue with sharp markings. Retains the original and correct Lyman receiver sight mounted on the right side of the receiver that is adjustable for both windage and elevation. The receiver blue has aged to a smooth and attractive plum/brown. Very tight action. Fine bore shows only some light scattered roughness mainly toward the middle of the bore. Military canvas sling is unmarked and appears to be original to this rifle.
