This Remington rolling block military rifle is most likely a militia rifle. This rifle has a type four action and is totally unmarked. The overall length is approx. 50.75"". The approx. 35"" round barrel has an excellent bore. It chambers a .45-70 cartridge perfectly. All the metal has a gray/brown patina with the receiver having a couple of small areas of pits on the right. The buttstock is good with no chips or cracks and a small 5-pointed star lightly inscribed on the right. The forend is good with the usage dents and dings and with two well-done repairs on each side of the barrel at the receiver. The sling swivels and ramrod are present. The action works properly with the exception that if the trigger is pulled when the rolling block is back the hammer will fall to safe when the rolling block if put into battery. This is an interesting military rolling block rifle that merits further research.
