1898 Krag Carbine

For sale is an 1898 Krag Carbine with the upgraded 1899 stock and 1901 rear sight . The Carbine is in excellent condition, 95 % original bright blue and excellent, sharp bore . The serial number is 13122x , front and rear sights are marked C . 1898 Carbine serial number range is 120xxx to 132xxx. This is an original 1898 Carbine ,[ only 5000 made] , not a cut down rifle . Almost all 1898 carbines were upgraded to the 1899 stock and improved rear sight . There is no cartouche or proof mark on the stock which is correct, as these guns had already been inspected and proofed with the original 1898 stock. . See Brophy's book on Krag rifles and Mallory's book . Unfortunately some time in it's later life this gun had it's stock cut and a recoil pad put on , LOP 13 1/4 inches . Too bad, as this is an extremely rare carbine , only 5000 made and it is in collector grade condition , with no other modifications , bright blue and excellent bore . My price reflects for the cut stock , otherwise it would be a $3000 or more, carbine.
