Later Production Springfield US Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle ("Model 1877")
Description: Serial #78386, .45-70 Gov’t., 32 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very minor freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome rifle, made prior to the switch to the "low arch" breechblock, and retains some of the original blue, mostly on the lockplate, with the balance of the metal having a dark plum-brown patina that has mild surface freckling throughout. The sights are correct for this model, and the "high-arch" breechblock is equipped with an original bronze variant firing pin. The walnut stock has been arsenal refinished to fine shape with only minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the added military oil finish. The "ESA / 1877" cartouche is still clear and legible on the left side of the wrist. This is a very nice original Trapdoor, in very good plus condition, and would make a fine representational example in a collection. Antique; Price: $1,595.00 Contact Seller |
