This is a Colt model SP1 Carbine AR-15, the rifle that started all the craze!  This example was produced in 1982 and chambered in .223 Rem.  Comes as shown with an org. Colt 20 round magazine.  Some common early features to these rifles are bayonet lug, large front takedown pin, NO Internal Sear Block and no reinforcement around the magazine release.  The rifle works with the direct gas impingement or GIO.
The receiver is a slab-sided receiver which lacks the forward assist nor has a case deflector.  Dust cover and a manual flip safety.  It has a 16-inch barrel with birdcage flash hider.  The barrel is marked “C MP Chrome Bore” and has a bore that is shiny and in excellent condition.  The fixed carry handle has “C M” inside the handle on the right side.
The front sight is a post iron sight which is adjustable for elevation, and it has an A1 L-type flip adjustable rear sight.  It has a parkerized finish with minimal wear marks and is overall in great condition.  It has a 3-piece black synthetic furniture.  Pistol grip, handguard and collapsable stock. 
The handguard is ribbed.  The pistol grip is checkered with lanyard loop.  The stock is a 2 position collapsable style made from hard nylon /acetate coated aluminum.  This rifle has a shorted buffer and buffer tube vs the standard rifle.  Comes with shown Colt SP1 Black Sling and type 2 muzzle cap. 

The Scope is the Japan made earlier style with the thin lettering a top and duplex reticle.  It's a fixed 3x20 magnification.  Has text "Japan" on the underside of the tube.  The body has a few handling marks from over the 50 years or so.  The glass and optics are still in excellent condition.  No fog or scratches.  This is a collectible scope vs the later "thick" print logo version.
