This rifle started life in 1918 as a Rock Island Arsenal M1903. Sometime between 1924 and 1938 it was modified into one of the rare NRA Match rifles. Later still, it was rebuilt into a Sedgley-esq style target rifle. This involved re-bluing the metal, replacing the original military style stock with a pistol grip target stock, the installation of a Lyman Model 48 rear peep sight and hooded front sight. Unfortunately, when the work was done, the replacement stock chosen was not fitted with recoil bolts and at some point a large chip of wood was lost behind the receiver in front of the wrist. A crack was also formed over time running top to bottom on the inside of the stock behind the receiver. The bore in good shape with well-defined rifling, but there is some micro pitting near the muzzle although it is barely visible. This is why later versions like the ‘03A3 were equipped with rear mounted peep sights.
