This 1943 World War II bolt-action rifle is a Smith-Corona Model 03-A3 chambered in .30-06 Springfield. With less than 250,000 of the Smith-Corona 03-A3 rifles manufactured during WWII, this firearm is a somewhat rare specimen. Its 24" barrel has 4-groove rifling and has the SC flaming bomb barrel marking as well as the "P" on the reverse side of the barrel. Hooded blade front sight, receiver-mounted rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight marked from "2-8" on the top and "0" with hash marks on the rear. Has recoil bolts. The left side of the wrist is stamped with crossed cannons (barely discernable), as well as a retangular-boxed "FJA" and a retangular-boxed "OG" mark on the right side and also has the "P" proof mark on the bottom of the grip behind the trigger guard. The trigger guard/magazine assembly has a semicircular indentation behind the front screw hole. The top of the bolt handle is marked with an "X." The stock has sling loops top and bottom (no sling). Finish appears to be all original. The wood on this rifle is in remarkably good condition, although it does show numerous handling marks throughout. The rifling in the barrel looks strong.
