US Contract Model 1816 Musket by Nathan Starr (Percussion Conversion)
Description: NSN, .69 Caliber, 42" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This musket has matching 1831 dates on the lockplate and barrel tang, with the metal having an overall dark, plum-brown patina, and mild pitting around the barrel breech. The "US / (sunburst) / N. STARR" and "MIDLTN / CONN / 1831" lockplate markings are still clear and legible, with an overall mottled gray-brown patina across the face. The musket was converted via the Cone, or Belgian method, and the remnants of the brass pan have turned to a mellow ochre patina. The walnut stock is in fine shape with scattered minor handling marks in the otherwise excellent original oil finish, with crisp "JH" (John Hawkins) inspector initials on the left side opposite the lock. The action is tight and fully functional, and the original iron ramrod is included. This is an attractive percussion conversion of a US Model 1816 Contract Musket, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
