US Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description: Serial #561174, .45-70 Gov’t., 32 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This late model Trapdoor has an overall plum-brown patina along the barrel, with a slightly more mottled gray on the receiver, bronze firing pin-equipped breechblock, and lock. Some faint traces of original blue can still be seen on protected areas, and traces of the original oil-quenched color case-hardening are still present on the underside of the breechblock, with mottled freckling on the top surfaces. A newer, untarnished brass front sight blade is installed, and a correct Buffington rear sight is present. The walnut stock rates very good with numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the reapplied military oil finish. The "SWP / 1888" cartouche is faint, but still legible on the left side of the wrist. This is a nice looking Trapdoor, and is in good-very good condition overall. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
