Description: Finnish Mosin Nagant M91 (CAI Import) - 7.62x54R - Used; Good Condition - Parts Gun Chimera Finnish Mosin Nagant M91 – A Veritable Chimera of Finnish Options – CAI Import
For sale is a Finnish Mosin Nagant M91 bolt-action rifle, chambered in the iconic 7.62x54R cartridge. Imported by Century Arms International (CAI) of Vermont, this rifle is in good used condition and represents a fascinating piece of Finnish military history – a true "parts gun chimera" assembled from various Mosin components over multiple refurbishments.
After Finland declared independence from Russia following the Russian Revolution, they retained stores of Russian Mosin Nagants. With an urgent need to build an army, Finland adopted the Mosin as their primary rifle. Between WWI and WWII, Finland actively traded for additional Mosins and built "new" rifles from spare parts – this M91 is a direct product of that practice. It is a Finnish-made rifle using a Russian stock with a spliced-on new fore-end, featuring a mix of parts from different eras and sources. Specifications

Finnish Mosin History – The Chimera of Finnish Options
Finnish Independence: When Tsar Nicholas II was deposed, Finland declared independence and defeated Russian forces, retaining stores of Mosin rifles.
Urgent Army Building: With the threat of Russia looming, Finland needed an army – adopting the Mosin as their primary rifle was a practical decision.
Active Trading: Between WWI and WWII, Finland actively traded other rifle types with countries across Europe and Asia for additional Mosins.
Parts Gun Assembly: With an abundance of spare parts, Finland built "new" rifles from serviceable components – this M91 is a direct result of that practice.
Multiple Refurbishments: This rifle (or at least parts of it) has been refurbished several times, as evidenced by the crossed-out serial numbers.
Finnish Mosin Features – Distinctive Modifications
Russian Stock with Spliced Fore-end: Finnish armorers would splice new wood onto the front of Russian stocks to repair damage or reinforce the fore-end.
Escutcheon Plate Sling Slots: Round holes with hangers – distinct from Russian-style sling slots.
Finnish Front Sight: No base, curved top, notched rear – a Finnish modification for improved sight picture.
No Bayonet Socket: Finnish doctrine often did not include bayonets, so many Finnish Mosins lack bayonet lugs.
Tikka Marked Parts: Several parts bear Tikka markings – Tikka is a famous Finnish firearms manufacturer.
Not a Stepped Barrel Model: This is not the Tikka stepped barrel variant.
Condition Details – Well Used, Multiple Refurbishments
Overall: Good condition – well-used military surplus rifle with character from multiple refurbishments.
Mechanical Function: Good – Bolt cycles, trigger functions, magazine feeds.
Bore: Requires inspection – typical for a well-used Mosin.
Stock: Russian stock with spliced fore-end shows wear, dings, and repairs consistent with military use and multiple refurbishments.
Metal Finish: Blued/parkerized finish shows wear, patina, and character from age and use.
Sights: Finnish front sight is intact; rear sight is adjustable.
Markings: Crossed-out serial numbers and illegible markings are part of the rifle's history – this is a true parts gun chimera.
Cleaning Rod: Included but no cleaning kit.
The 7.62x54R Cartridge – A Century of Service
Proven Military Cartridge: The 7.62x54R has been the standard Russian/Soviet cartridge since 1891 – over 130 years of service.
Still in Use Today: The 7.62x54R is still used by the Dragunov SVD and other modern firearms.
Widely Available: Surplus and commercial ammunition is available – affordable for plinking and target shooting.
Effective Performance: Comparable to .30-06 Springfield – effective for hunting medium to large game.
Collector's Notes – A Piece of Finnish History
Parts Gun Chimera: This rifle is a true "chimera" – a composite of parts from different rifles, assembled by Finnish armorers to create a functional weapon.
Not a Collector's Showpiece: This is a well-used, historically significant working rifle – not a pristine safe queen. It shows its age and service history honestly.
Finnish Mosin Appeal: Finnish Mosins are highly regarded by collectors for their improved fit and finish over Russian models – even parts guns have historical value.
CAI Import Mark: Imported by Century Arms International (VT) – a common importer for military surplus rifles.
Ideal For: Historical enthusiasts, Mosin collectors interested in Finnish variations, and shooters who appreciate a rifle with character.
