Know as the "Mosin Nagant improved", the Finnish Model 1928s are built from referbished 1891 Russian Mosin Nagant rifles. The rifles were shortened as the Finnish Civil Guard troops usually traveled by ski and needed a shorter rifle than the full length Mosin Nagants. The rifles were rebarreled and fitted with a permanent front sight protector. The handguards were changed and wrap around barrel bands were added with the front band having a bayonet lug. The stocks were cut and joined together with a finger design as this was found to reduce the flex and stress on the stocks when used in the extreme cold tempuratures commonly found in Finland. This rifle has the rounded finger joints which indicates it is a World War Two war time produced rifle. The bolt and receiver are matching with a fresh Finnish stamped "SY" barrel. The action is very smooth as the Finns hand polished the bolts. Very different when compared to the Russian 91/30 rifle's clunky actions. It has sharp lands and grooves with a bright bore. The stock shows wear and tear typical of military surplus rifles, but has nice color and grain. The magazine floor plate does not match. This would make an excellent rifle for a World War Two collection as these rifles saw action against the Soviets during the first years of the war and an excellent shooter at the range.
