The 3-line rifle Model of 1891, colloquially known in the U.S. as the Mosin-Nagant, is is a five-shot, bolt action, internal magazine fed, military rifle developed in 1891 by the Imperial Russian Empire. A later version known as the 91/30 (the most common variant seen in the U.S. surplus market) was used by the Soviet Union in World War Two. This example was produced in 1895 by Tula arsenal. During World War One this rifle was captured by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and "AZF" (Artillerie Zeugs Fabrik) stamped across the top of the receiver. When the Austrian's lost the war many of these captured rifles were given away as war reparations. This particular one found its way into Finnish possession and stamped with "SA" (Suomen Armeija, or Finnish Army). The rifle is in excellent condition considering the age and all of the wars it fought in: Boxer rebellion, Russo-Japanese War, World War One, The Winter War, and World War Two. The rifle is all matching and is in perfect mechanical working order. The bore is dark but the rifling is still strong and visible. The stock shows wear, but is in remarkable condition for the abuse these rifles were put through. It comes with a Finnish Army sling. This is a fasinating rifle and a wonderful example of the historical Mosin-Nagant, a perfect piece for a military collection.
